ThispaperprovidesstepbystepinstructionsforusingWakeOnLAN(WOL)
withDell™Servers.
Definition
WakeOnLANallowsaservertoberemotelypoweredon.WakeOnLAN
technologyresidesinaserver’smanagednetworkinterfacecard(NIC)and/orin
aLANonmotherboard(LOM)integratednetworkconnection.
WhenaWOLenabledsystemisplacedinapowersavingmode(hibernate,
standby,poweroff,etc...),
themanagedNICorLOMusestheauxiliarypower
sourcetomonitorthenetworkandreceiveawakeuppacket.Whenawakeup
packetisreceived,thesystempowersupasnormal.
