Service Mode
The tape drive can run diagnostics, and save ("dump") vital technical data to drive memory. The drive must be in service mode to perform these functions. The unload
button can be used to place the drive in service mode and select a service function. To enter service mode, press the unload button and hold for 6 seconds. When the
Ready LED starts to flash rapidly, then the drive is in service mode.
While in Service Mode, the drive indicates the Service Function that is to be executed by displaying one of the sequences of LEDs shown in Table 1. Service Mode.
When the drive is first placed in service mode, the ready LED is flashing rapidly, indicating that the drive is ready to execute service function 1. Press the button once
per second to increment the service functions one by one. When you reach the desired service function, execute it by either loading a cartridge, or by double clicking
the Unload button quickly. Exact instructions for executing the service functions are given in Executing Service Functions.
Table 1. Service Functions
NOTICE: When updating firmware, do not power off the tape drive until the update is complete, or the firmware may be lost.
NOTE: Service functions cannot be performed concurrently with read or write operations. While in service mode, the tape drive does not accept SCSI
commands from the system. Close all tape drive applications before entering service mode.
