Installing The Chassis Intrusion Switch
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only
perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as
directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is
not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions
that came with the product.
1. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the
electrical outlet and peripherals.
2. Open the system.
3. Insert the chassis intrusion switch into the chassis intrusion switch slot and slide it in to secure it.
4. Wind the chassis intrusion switch cable around the cable-routing hook.
5. Connect the chassis intrusion switch cable to the system board.
6. Close the system.
Optical Drive (Optional)
Removing The Optical Drive

not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions
that came with the product.
1. If installed, remove the front bezel.
2. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the
electrical outlet and peripherals.
3. Open the system.
4. Disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the optical drive.
Note the routing of the power and data cables as you remove them from the system board and the
optical drive. You must route these cables properly when you replace them to prevent them from
being pinched or crimped.
5. Press the release latch. Lift and orient the drive to release it from the metal standoffs.
If you are not installing a new optical drive, install the optical-drive blank.
6. To install the optical-drive blank, slide the optical-drive blank into the optical-drive slot until it clicks
into place.
7. Close the system.
8. Reconnect the system to the electrical outlet and turn the system on, including any attached
peripherals.
