snmp-server engineID remote
To specify the SNMP engine ID of a remote SNMP device, use the snmp-
server engineID remote Global Configuration mode command. Use the no
form of this command to remove the configured engine ID.
Syntax
snmp-server engineID remote
ip-address engineid-string
no snmp-server engineID remote
ip-address
Parameters
ip-address
—IPv4, IPv6 or IPv6z address of the remote device. See IPv6
Address Conventions.
engineid-string
—The character string that identifies the engine ID. The
engine ID is a concatenated hexadecimal string. Each byte in hexadecimal
character strings is two hexadecimal digits. Each byte can be separated by
a period or colon. If the user enters an odd number of hexadecimal digits,
the system automatically prefixes the hexadecimal string with a zero.
(Range: engineid-string5–32 characters. 9–64 hexadecimal digits)
Default Configuration
The remote engineID is not configured by default.
Command Mode
Global Configuration mode
User Guidelines
A remote engine ID is required when an SNMP version 3 inform is
configured. The remote engine ID is used to compute the security digest for
authenticating and encrypting packets sent to a user on the remote host.
Example
console(config)# snmp-server engineID remote 1.1.1.1
11:AB:01:CD:23:44
